Motor Vehicle Injury

COMPREHENSIVE RELIEF

An estimated 70% of adults in the U.S. are involved in a motor vehicle accident at some point in their life.  Of these individuals, approximately one in ten develop widespread, chronic pain.  The most commonly reported injuries that follow an accident include whiplash, low back pain and neck pain.  Symptoms of a whiplash can take weeks or even months before they become evident.  Thus, many individuals don’t seek treatment immediately following a car accident.  Unfortunately, if the injury is not treated in a timely fashion then some of the damage may become permanent.  Whiplash is caused by sudden movement of the head in any direction that leads to injury in the surrounding muscles, ligaments and tissues that support it.  It can affect the joints in the cervical spine and lead to chronic pain or extended disability.  If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident then you should go to a hospital to rule out any serious complications that may develop in the future.

Signs and Symptoms

Pain after a motor vehicle accident may not appear immediately; symptoms can often be delayed for hours or even days as inflammation develops.

  • Chronic neck and shoulder stiffness
  • Numbness or tingling in extremities
  • Severe or persistent headaches
  • Reduced range of motion in the spine
  • Lower back pain or radiating leg pain
  • Muscle spasms and inflammation
  • Dizziness or blurred vision
  • Facial or jaw pain (TMJ issues)

Causes of Motor Vehicle Injury Pain

Whiplash Trauma

Rapid back-and-forth movement of the neck causing strain on muscles, ligaments, and nerves.

Spinal Disc Herniation

Sudden impact can cause spinal discs to compress or rupture, leading to nerve impingement.

Facet Joint Injury

Impact can damage the small joints between vertebrae, causing localized and radiating pain.
